Port San Antonio Board Approves Phase 1 Plans for New Innovation Center

Port San Antonio announced it would begin development of its proposed innovation center after board members approved plans in a meeting on Wednesday, according to Port officials.The board resolution authorizes the Port to spend up to $1 million on architectural and engineering design development costs for Phase 1 of the new facility. Completion of the design package for the project, complete with conceptual renderings, is expected in spring 2020.The approved center will include a technology arena, museum, collaborative technology transfer lab, an industry showroom, and community spaces and amenities. Shift in Port San Antonio Strategic Approach Yields Close to 3,000 New Jobs

Port San Antonio's new strategic course launched 18 months ago has paid off with close to 3,000 new jobs in cybersecurity, aerospace, and other advanced technologies, Port president and CEO Jim Perschbach said in Friday's State of the Port address. Organized by the West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the annual year in review emphasized how bold decisions have paid off so far in economic development and new opportunities for innovation at the Port.Of the 2,757 jobs created since the start of fiscal year 2018 to date, only 50 were a result of economic incentives offered by the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, Pershbach said. San Antonio indoor navigation robotics startup Reckon Point announced Friday the close of its $1.5 million seed funding round. Notes We Buy, LLC, headed by George Atallah, an entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience as a real estate investor, developer and asset manager in the Texas and California markets, led the round with $1.2 million. Last week, a group of Texas State Legislature Representatives visited Port San Antonio to learn about its ambitious plans for a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) innovation campus in San Antonio. Many eagerly anticipate the Port's proposed development concept which Port board members should receive by November 30, said Port president and CEO Jim Perschbach. In February, Port board members approved a pre-development agreement with American Triple I Partners, an infrastructure private equity firm focused on transportation, information technology, and smart city investments, to build the innovation center. Fast-Growing CNF Technologies Opens Cyber Lab at Port San Antonio

One of the fastest-growing cybersecurity companies in San Antonio opened a state-of-the-art cyber research and development (R&D) facility. CNF Technologies launched its new cyber lab in Port San Antonio's first specialized cyber-capable Project Tech building Wednesday. The new CNF cyber lab is 6,000 square feet with another 12,000 square feet to be added by 2020 for cybersecurity operations support. CNF Technologies is one of the 100 fastest-growing companies in San Antonio for 2019 and is a leading source of specialized cybersecurity expertise nationwide. Lockheed Martin has opened its development center in Port San Antonio's new cybersecurity-centric building known as Project Tech.
