Pinch Boil House Wins $25,000 Geekdom Community Fund

Pinch Boil House, a downtown restaurant, won the Geekdom Community Fund $25,000 award Friday. The popular fast-casual restaurant, co-founded by Andrew Ho and Sean Wen, opened to local diners in 2017.Typically held every quarter at well-attended Geekdom events, the founders gave their Community Fund pitches instead via Zoom video call. Aspiring entrepreneurs spoke excitedly to attendees at the Geekdom inaugural launch for its incubator cohort Tuesday evening. The three teams are participating in an inaugural 12-month-long incubator program designed to help launch civically-focused tech startups. With little fanfare, San Antonio-based Promoter.io, a customer analytics and insights software as a service (SaaS) platform for small and medium-sized businesses, was acquired in September 2019 by Medallia, the global leader in customer experience management. In that same month, Medallia underwent an IPO four days before buying two other companies along with Promoter.io.Founders Chad Keck and Ricardo Reyna (who left the company in 2018) launched Promoter.io in 2013, working out of Geekdom, San Antonio’s first co-working space. Bexar County is teaming up with Tech Bloc, a San Antonio technology industry advocacy nonprofit on TechFuel, a non-dilutive, three-tiered $100,000 cash-prize pitch competition open to early-stage tech startups located across the state of Texas, Tech Bloc announced Thursday.The competition is designed to help emerging tech entrepreneurs launch innovative companies and is funded by Bexar County’s Innovation Fund.
