VelocityTX Admits 4 Companies into its 2022 BioGlobal Accelerator

The innovation hub on San Antonio’s Eastside has announced four bioscience companies for its 2022 accelerator program.

VelocityTX supports the development of early-stage life science and technology companies in San Antonio. Launched in 2020, Velocity’s BioGlobal Accelerator is designed to help local, national, and international companies with innovative, scalable business ideas accelerate the launch of their business.

The accelerator is the first and only program in San Antonio specializing in early-stage companies focusing on medical devices, biotech, and healthcare IT.

The six-week, in-person program helps founders grow and scale bioscience ventures through educational sessions, mentorship, and financing opportunities. Three of the four companies are based in San Antonio.

  • Biomedical Development Corporation is developing KIOS, a digital health therapeutic for treating opioid use disorder. The app provides real-time behavioral advice matched to an individual’s changing mental condition.
  • Life SI is an Argentinian company commercializing 3D bioprinters and microfluidics chips for tissue modeling in healthcare research.
  • The San Antonio-based startup Powell Medical Innovations launched in 2022 to bring its first medical device to the market. Dialectra is a sensing apparatus for dialysis patients.
  • Savidj is a San Antonio startup founded in 2021 focused on developing software for use in off-the-shelf neurological health devices such as Faceguard, which detects concussions from contact sports.

To qualify, companies must be developing a medical device or biotech application, already incorporated in the U.S., have at least two members and show traction in intellectual property, proof-of-concept testing or prototype, and investors.

“During the six weeks, they [the companies] will experience pure acceleration through highly intense programming crafted by industry experts, staff, and executive team,” said David Fonseca, VelocityTX CEO. “By graduation, these companies will be in a position to raise significant capital and start hiring and boosting our Alamo City economy.”
