Startups San Antonio continues its series of articles on different San Antonio startup programs. The first was Startups Share Experiences from Geekdom's Pre-Accelerator Program. This second story features San Antonio's CivTechSA program, a residency for startups to work closely with municipal departments in search of innovative solutions. After 16 weeks of hard work, the first CivTechSA residency ended July 27 for two San Antonio startups. Kinetech Cloud and Reckon Point worked with the City of San Antonio's Department of Human Services and the San Antonio International Airport respectively, devising solutions to their municipal challenges. Entrepreneurs traveled from across the U.S to attend a small, but sold-out startup summit at San Antonio’s Cellars at the Pearl Saturday. What was different about this startup program was its objective—helping founders accelerate their cannabis startups. Rick Martinez, founder and CEO of the Wellness Project Rx, a cannabis business coaching company, launched a San Antonio-based cannabis entrepreneur accelerator program Wednesday. Startups Share Experiences from Geekdom Pre-Accelerator Program

The growth in entrepreneurially-minded founders developing new companies in San Antonio is driving demand for early-stage startup programs. In response, downtown San Antonio co-working space Geekdom launched its Pre-Accelerator program in April with six startups in its first cohort. The program is designed to prepare San Antonio startups for an accelerator or seed investment while learning from expert mentorship.
