If you want to know about the cutting edge of bioscience and healthcare in San Antonio, mark your calendar for the evening of January 30.
That night the annual State of the Industry will feature speakers sharing five compelling San Antonio healthcare and bioscience stories. The Health Cell is the San Antonio-based nonprofit organization focused on professional development and collaboration within San Antonio’s healthcare and bioscience fields. It hosts the annual event to shine a light on the breadth and depth of innovation pursued by some of the city’s game-changing researchers, entrepreneurs, and organizations.
“This is a great representation of the advancements being made across San Antonio’s healthcare and bioscience sectors,” said Pratap Khanwilkar, The Health Cell president and vice president for product development at InCube Labs. “It’s the only event of this type celebrating achievements of the people moving San Antonio’s preeminent industry forward.”
Submissions for consideration undergo a competitive review process by The Health Cell and its panel of judges. As one of the panelists, I look forward eagerly to this process every year to learn about those in San Antonio doing extraordinary work in healthcare and bioscience.
There are six industry leaders who will share their latest work featuring some of San Antonio’s more compelling advancements in health and science, such as using artificial intelligence in radiology and developing the next generation of medical device to help patients breathe.
Steven Venticinque, M.D., is anesthesiologist at the University Health System and professor of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at UT Health Science Center San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) who will talk about his journey as a clinician-entrepreneur developing a new-generation airway device.
Cynthia Blanco, M.D., is a professor of pediatrics at UT Health San Antonio and will share her clinical research on a surprising solution to the problems in nutrition for critically ill newborns.
Lance Reinsmith, M.D., is a radiologist with South Texas Radiology Group, Covalent Radiology, and Intrinsic Imaging who is applying the power of artificial intelligence to help radiologists manage triage an overloaded system.
Lillian Liao, M.D., is an associate professor of trauma and emergency surgery at UT Health San Antonio and trauma specialist at the University Health System. She will present the collaborative response to a local casualty event that leveraged unique capabilities.
Oanh Maroney-Omitade, vice president of clinical operations at Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas and Sarah Hogan, division director at the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council will discuss what it takes to build a model for providing just-in-time assistance to an underserved segment of the population.
Mayor Ron Nirenberg will provide opening remarks for the State of the Industry, which is in its fifth year. The event will start at 6 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt hotel. Tickets are available online.
