Cycling Safety Tech Startup Wins Trinity University’s Stumberg Venture Competition

LuxTurn Technologies, a device motorcyclists use to make their turn and brake signals more visible to motorists, garnered the top prize of $20,000 at Trinity University's Louis H. Stumberg Venture Competition Wednesday. In a departure from past practice, the judges decided to split the $25,000 prize into two checks. Trinity Student Teams Win $5K in Stumberg Seed-Round Venture Competition

Five Trinity University student startup teams each received $5,000 checks Tuesday evening in a venture competition that will culminate in a $25,000 investment for one of the groups this fall. The winning teams ranged from a school to strengthen mariachi culture and community to a proposed technology to make motorcycle riding safer. Seven teams competed in the annual Louis H. Trinity University student entrepreneur team Quick Sip, producer of a specialty cold brew bottled coffee, won the $25,000 grand prize in funding Thursday in the final round of the annual Louis H. Stumberg Venture Competition.But that is not the entire story.The competition was fierce among the four finalist teams. One San Antonio university internship program placing students at local startups is expanding its local reach to college students nationwide. Students+Startups, run collaboratively between Trinity University, the nonprofit 80/20 Foundation, and San Antonio co-working community Geekdom announced the program's expansion Monday.The internship program is funded by a grant from the 80/20 Foundation, established by the co-founder and former Rackspace chairman Graham Weston. The 80/20 Foundation had planned on opening the application process beyond Trinity University to students at all San Antonio colleges starting in 2019, according to Weston.
