There’s no doubt San Antonio’s entrepreneurial ecosystem has grown in 2019. The San Antonio Startup Ecosystem Map represents a somewhat sequential startup life cycle. A macro-level view, the graphic lists local resources available throughout an entrepreneur’s journey from student to CEO to the need to scale for global growth. Attendees at the annual BioMed SA breakfast Wednesday heard a career retrospective that honored outgoing president, Ann Stevens, who announced her decision to retire November 20. Launched in 2005, BioMed SA is a nonprofit advocacy organization former Mayor Henry Cisneros helped create to highlight San Antonio's strengths in the biomedical and healthcare sectors. Scaleworks Spins Out Element SaaS Finance, a Debt Fund for Startup Financing

San Antonio-based venture equity firm Scaleworks announced Thursday it spun out a new $10 million debt fund that will provide an alternative source of financing for startups. Called Element SaaS Finance, it was first launched as the Scaleworks Venture Finance Fund in January 2018. John Gallagher took over in January as Element's CEO from Karl Pichler, a former chief financial officer at Rackspace who was a general partner at Scaleworks managing the venture finance fund. Gallagher oversaw venture finance for Scaleworks and has almost 15 years of experience in asset management and financing.
