Codeup Opens Second Tech Accelerator Campus in Downtown Dallas

It's official —  Codeup, a tech career boot camp accelerator based in San Antonio has signed a lease on its new campus location in downtown Dallas two blocks from John F. Kennedy Memorial Plaza at 701 Commerce Street. Michael Girdley, Jason Straughan, and Chris Turner opened Codeup in 2013, offering its 20-week coding boot camp-style workforce development program for aspiring software developers. Since launching, the company has grown from its roots as a boot camp into a local institution focused on meeting demand for talent in San Antonio’s growing technology ecosystem. Greycroft and LiveOak Venture Partners Lead $3M Seed Funding Round for CyberFortress

Chief executive Huw Edwards announced Wednesday CyberFortress had closed a $3 million seed funding round co-led by New York-based private equity firm Greycroft and Austin-based LiveOak Venture Partners. Monte Tulum Capital, which had invested in CyberFortress’s pre-seed round, is also participating in the latest funding. Porthcawl Holdings, Jungle Disk’s parent company, provided pre-seed financing in 2018. The San Antonio-based insurtech (insurance technology) startup will use the $3 million investment to accelerate its product launch in Texas in early 2020, Edwards said. LuxTurn Technologies, a device motorcyclists use to make their turn and brake signals more visible to motorists, garnered the top prize of $20,000 at Trinity University's Louis H. Stumberg Venture Competition Wednesday. In a departure from past practice, the judges decided to split the $25,000 prize into two checks. Runner up StorySpread, a software that gives give young adults the opportunity to create stories and comics, received a check for $5,000. Port San Antonio To Present Plan for New Innovation Hub Nov. 30

Last week, a group of Texas State Legislature Representatives visited Port San Antonio to learn about its ambitious plans for a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) innovation campus in San Antonio. Many eagerly anticipate the Port's proposed development concept which Port board members should receive by November 30, said Port president and CEO Jim Perschbach. In February, Port board members approved a pre-development agreement with American Triple I Partners, an infrastructure private equity firm focused on transportation, information technology, and smart city investments, to build the innovation center.
