Scaleworks Company Assembla Acquires MyGet

Companies of all sizes in every industry have come to rely upon open source code—even commercial software is built typically on blocks of it. While it saves software developers time, open source code can contain vulnerabilities or proprietary software code, posing potential cybersecurity or legal liabilities for a business. This trend is what drove source code management company Assembla to acquire MyGet for an undisclosed amount, announced in a company blog post Friday. Founded in 2006 and acquired in 2016 by Scaleworks, a San Antonio venture equity firm, Assembla is the world’s only provider of enterprise cloud version control for software code. Code repositories use version control to manage files and code updates. Assembla’s cloud-based platform tracks version control for softwar...

Office Mail Automation Company Earth Class Mail Acquires Shoeboxed

Digital mail management industry leader Earth Class Mail (ECM) announced Wednesday its acquisition for an undisclosed amount of Shoeboxed, a company that has been turning receipts and business cards into digital data since 2007. Earlier in August ECM announced the release of its new user interface, complete with added features and upgrades, including search features, the ability to share content via e-mail, custom tags, and integration with office software such as Quickbooks. Youth Code Jam Scales For Greater Coding Impact

Inspiring young people to learn how to code can be a challenge, but that did not stop Debi Pfitzenmaier and many volunteers over the years from organizing fun, free family events to introduce children to computer coding. That effort became Youth Code Jam, a nonprofit organization Pfitzenmaier founded in 2016 to inspire students to do more than play on computers—they learn new skills like Java, Scratch, and how to program robots. At free events and paid camps, children aged 7 to 17 learn to “talk” to computers and get them to do what they want them to do. Youth Code Jam’s goals are twofold:  to teach each computational thinking as a problem-solving methodology and to inspire students to pursue computer science and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education. Pfitzenmaier ...
